In this case study, IQVIA conducted an analysis of dual combination therapies used in hypertension treatment across eleven data assets. IQVIA ran an anti-hypertensive characterization to evaluate the proportion of patients receiving one of several dual combination regimens, overall and by country and demographic subgroup.

The methodology involved the federated network model of OHDSI, in which access to deidentified data and statistical analyses were executed inside each data partner's institution using the OHDSI common tool stack.

The impact of this study is significant, revealing large variations in the transition between monotherapy and dual combination therapy for hypertension across countries and by demographic group. The findings were published in JAMA Network Open, demonstrating the value of real-world data in transforming our understanding of hypertension treatment strategies.
